What was the best decade to grow up in?

Got thinking about this today. What would have been the best decade to grow up in TV-wise? Completely ignoring anything else that was happening in the world at that point and purely from the point of view of kids TV shows.

As a child of the 90s, I would wager that that would definitely be up there.
    Anamaniacs
    Freakazoid
    Round the Twist
    Fresh Prince of Belair
    Keenan and Kel
    Hey Arnold
    Gargoyles
    Art Attack
    Hang Time

And much much more that isn't coming to me.

For me, looking back as an adult, it was a time where TV shows weren't afraid to have much more to their content and often dealt with adult themes, never treating children as idiots.

Would anyone agree with me or have a different opinion as to which decade was the best to grow up during?

Don't be silly, Pokemon never happened. Just a figment of your imagination.

The 80s and 90s were definitely the years for amazing intro songs, regardless of which was better *cough* 90s had Saved by the Bell. *cough*

As a child growing up in the 80's the sky was the limit with the level of cartoons & tv shows. None of this reality crap the kid's are subjected to these days!

    Grange Hill
    Bread
    The Equilizer
    Fraggle Rock
    Rolf Harris's Cartoon Time
    The Chipmunks
    Ducktales
    Bosco
& So many more i just wouldn't have the space to list them all.

Wow, I can recall and relate to everything on that list. Add in Chips, Automan, Batfink, Grandstand, Street Hawk, Dempsey and Makepeace.

I was thinking about this recently and I've come to the conclusion that the 80's was the best. Not because the tv was better back then, but simply because it coincideded with the end of "event" tv. With the advent of VCR's you no longer had to "be there" in front of a tv at a specific time to see the shows you liked. Now fast-foward (pun intended) 20 years and with things like youtube and downloads tv has become about as impressive as a html page.

I reckon that's why 80's kids look back fondly on their tv watching. It's because they're the last generation who actually had to put a bit of effort or sacrifice into the experience in order to get the reward.

I'm a child of the 90s, too - and I can add Taz-Mania, Pinky and the Brain, Rugrats, Bernard's Watch, Woof!, Zzzap!, Fun House, Finders Keepers and Byker Grove to that list. ;):)

I also remember getting excited about the first Dennis the Menace TV series in 1996, as I was a religious Beano reader at the time - and being slightly disappointed that the likes of Minnie the Minx, Roger the Dodger and the Bash Street Kids didn't appear in it. :(;)

The 80s and 90s were definitely the years for amazing intro songs, regardless of which was better *cough* 90s had Saved by the Bell. *cough*

The 90s also had the second Grange Hill theme tune, the one played mainly on the piano - which I still prefer to Alan Hawkshaw's "Chicken Man".

Just a shame that the show's golden age was over by then...

And who can forget the Fun House song? "It's wacky, it's fun, it's cra-a-zy, it's outrageous! Fun House, it's a whole lot of fun, prizes to be won..."

    ;););)
