Personal version of a Garage Plate?

Might be a stupid question, actually pretty sure it is, but is there a personal version of a Garage Plate?

I Have my main car, which I drive in and out of work, and everywhere else for that matter, but would like something more fun... Something for off road and possibly something for the weekends (2 seater or something like that). But, ideally, I don't want to be paying full road tax and insurance for 3 vehicles... I already pay 700EUR a year for my BMW 520D... If i go for a "small" 4x4, you could be talking another EUR1000 and a 2 door could be another 700 as well... Is there something that allows me to drive multiple vehicles that i own with one Tax and Insurance Disc?

Only one of the vehicles will be on the road (or off as the case may be) at any one time... but it should be simple enough to transfer stuff around (no ringing insurance companies, etc). I just want to be able to walk out, jump into a car (which ever one) and head off...

    Possible?

You could look into a part time traders policy for insurance which would cover you for all 3 vehicles. May or may not work or apply to you depending on your circumstances.

You'll have to tax everything unfortunately.

I don't think you can do that.

Trade plates can only be used between 6am and 10pm. You also need a garage or dealer code to apply for them.

Use is also meant to be for upkeep, transport and "garage business" purposes so would not include daily driver use. Plus you would need to sort out insurance.

I would rather you just said "thank you" and went on your way. Otherwise I suggest you pick up a bus pass and get the ********* ********* off the road”

Ahh, well... it worth a shot!

If I did have a 4x4 and it was "off the road" most of the year, except a month or 2 in summer or when it snows, would i need to pay the full year tax, or could i just pay the months i need?

If you ever decided to move to Germany you can indeed get a 'personal trade plate'.

Owners with several classic vehicles can apply for a type of trade plate which costs €200 per annum and can be used on any vehicle in the owners possession. These plates are red-on-whte in colour (like the dealer plate I own pictured below...except the 'personal trade plates' start with '07').

You can pay motor tax quarterly if you want.

What is the story with trade plates for dealers, What does the plate actually cover - Does it allow them to legally go without tax on the car? Do they have to show proof of trade insurance to get them as I see them being issued by the council.

It hasn't really anything to do with the insurance side of it.

You can drive an unregistered or untaxed car provided its in the course of the motor trade.
