    are there any examples in Ireland of wooden Celtic high crosses? or any reports of them existing in the past???

    There is a consensus imho that the stone crosses are based on wooden examples. There is quite a lot written about it.

    The only surviving example I can think of is a probable wooden cross boss found in Woodquay

    Its just a boss so its circular. Loads of interlace. I don't have a picture but I do have a reference that might give further information.

    I don't know if there is a picture there.
