Cycling on pavements

i'm living in a mid-land, cycle-unfriendly town/city. Cars park both sides on the roads leading into town and sleepy people swing open doors without looking. All of which has me cycling on the pavement ie in the suburbs

The pavements are wide enough to accommodate a plane and i dont exactly zip by all doped up like that Lance Army fellow. A sober pedal and a friendly nod to the passing pedestrian - thats me.

Anyways, and its usually an ould one, i often get berated and challenged - 'dont you know pavements are for pedestrians ! you shouldnt bla bla bla !' etc. I just tell em to get Cancer (politely) and keep pedalling .. I Never engage with the angst and unhappiness in their lives. I mean why should I ..
