Gas C.H. Without Hot Water

    Currently have Oil C.H.

Is it possible to get gas in for the central heating only and blank off any pipes that currently heat the water by oil, and just use the immersion for hot water.

Not interested or can afford the latest high efficiency boilers or must have heating controls, triple glazing and solar panels and wind farm out the back etc:D

This option would suit me fine, survival time here lads, the clock is ticking:p

If your fitting a new gas boiler you have to fit high efficiency boiler. A rated. Why not pipe it to the cyclinder too and a simple stat on the cyclinder?

    Why would you want to???
Natural gas costs 6.6 cents per kwh hour but electricity is about 20 cent per kwh, therefore to heat your immersion (3kw) for one hour would cost 60 cent but for the same energy from a gas boiler would be 20 cent. The modulation of the HE gas boiler would look after the over-sizing factor.

Just thinking miles outside of the box

At this stage I would like systems that might give me a bit more sense security and dependability as can't afford to do the right thing as much as I would like.

Changing from Oil to Gas: €2700 (can manage this just about)

Gas Boiler to be placed in Boiler house (Preferred location) 4ft from house wall.

Have no idea how well pipes are insulated under the path. So how much heat loss is anyone's guess.

System 1.Get a non combo boiler for heating only.

System 2. (As now) Immersion (on timer) and Hot Press cylinder for hot water, electric shower, and attic storage tank.

Forgetting about running costs for a minute,

Wouldn't these two systems give you better options/security while waiting for a boiler service in the event of a breakdown or prolonged cold snap, IF YOU ONLY HAD SYSTEM 1 WITH A COMBO BOILER, or could I Keep my present system as is, and independent to a gas combo installation.

Sorry can't get me head round all this.

I think your confusing yourself. Why not have a cyclinder that can be heated by immersion and gas

    I know boy:)

Sealed system with instant hot water (combi system).

Is the above a typical layout installation for this country as I think this is what the quote I got for was, as he said 'remove your old cylinder'

If so can I retain my present bog standard, open system, HP Cylinder and attic cold storage tank, immersion heating, along side with this.

Is this possible as pipework would have to be shared, can valves do this, even manual ones.
