    Hi,

I'm considering applying for this course as a mature Student. I have many qualifications in IT subjects from VTOS and FAS courses, as well as MOUS and ACA certificates. I'm concerned that I don't have enough Maths experience however. Could anyone who has done this course please inform me how relevant this would be? I have a pass in ordinary LC maths from school, and a distinction in foundation LC maths which I took a few years ago. Is this enough of a baseline for beginning this course or would I need to spend this year taking the foundation course that the college offers first?

    Thanks for your time.

I'd say you'll be fine. Check with the maths requirements though if you want to be sure

Hello, I'm a third year student in the course at the moment.
In first year we had two/three maths courses which were linear algebra and then some calculus. We also had introduction to physics which was all maths. I've forgotten the courses but in second year we took

    Ma203 - Linear Algebra
    MA204 - discrete mathematics
    MA237 - Stats 1
    MA238 - Stats 2
MP209 - Methods of Mathematical Physics

feel free to look at the exam papers at : https://www.mis.nuigalway.ie/regexam/paper_index_search_main_menu.asp

After first and second year there are no more maths courses, unless you choose the maths "stream" of the course and take the higher level maths subjects. (almost everyone who did, regretted it as they're a lot of work and you could be doing much more relevant comp. sci subjects instead.)

In my own experience maths was what was hardest for me and I had to put the most work into. I had to repeat 2 papers in first year and got by on a whistle and a prayer but scraped through, and I struggled in second year too.

The best advice I can give is to go to every lecture, no matter the weather. seriosuly. GO TO EVERY SINGLE ONE, and do every assignment. Google and the library and your saviours too, and be interactive with your tutors in tutorials and the lectures.

It's not hard to get by if you put the work and time into it.
