Laptop suddenly switching off.

    Hi guys,

I recently purchased a new Acer laptop but I have noticed in the last week or two that all of a sudden it has started switching off without warning as if the battery has been taken out. I ran a CHKDSK command or something similar and restarted the laptop. The scan seemed to freeze at a certain percent so I stupidly aborted it. Should I have let it run for longer as I read after that this scan can take quite a while to finish? Laptop continues to switch off every so often. Any suggestions are much appreciated.

    Thanks a lot.

Is it overheating? Mine used to switch off when it was very hot (fans clogged with dust and other sh*te), I read that it does that to prevent permanent damage..

I don't think its overheating, I haven't noticed the laptop getting extremely hot or the fan getting any louder. The laptop is new so it couldn't be dust or anything like that.
