Ford Focus - Small Red Light beside Zero on Speedometer

Test drove a 2007 1.4L Zetec Ford Focus today and was happy enough with it.

However, I noticed a small red light coming on beside the "Zero" on the Speedometer. It seemed to only come on when I was accelerating. It was off when the car was stopped.

Posted a picture below of the closest image I could find on the web. You can see the small light just beside the 0MPH. It's off in the photo.

Anybody know what this is? Is this standard for this light to come on?

I know the focus has a shift light, i.e a red light comes on to indicate the optimum time to change gear for economy etc. It may be this although from memory I though the focus had a red arrow for this.

Yep, but the red arrow for the shift light is to the left over the battery light.

Ive only seen the red light down beside the speedometer come on when the drivers door is open I think.

Just to add, the small HUD also displays "driver door open" when that is the case and the engine us running though.

That's also to the left under the battery symbol. :D

I drove a 2011 Focus before which was hired by my company. It had an arrow in the display which seemed to come and off with acceleration and gear changes. It wasn't red though.

The 2007 model I drove today is a bit more basic and doesn't have the same instrument displays as the 2011.

No there was a separate snowflake symbol on at the time

Not an immobiliser light by any chance?

Don't think so. It was going on and off while I was driving.

Did you do a menu check by any chance? (Holding the select button in on the stalk as you start the engine?)

I'm thinking this could be the low washer bottle fluid warning. I've disabled audible notifications on my car, but I also have a pre facelift before the instrument upgrade to the red backlighting. On the updated instruments I think that light might mean that. Did you try spraying the windscreen at all?

Yeh I washed the windscreen. It was fine.

Anyone know where I can download a user manual for a 2007 focus? Did a few google searches but can only get American ones.

    Here's advise from justanswer.com;

The red light in conjunction with the engine management warning light means a fault has been detected with one of the engine management sensors or components.

To find out what the fault is, the vehicle will have to plugged into a diagnostics machine.

Doesn't a red light show beside the odometer in BMWs when the BMW has been clocked.

Read that in another thread on here recently.

they owl tempeture gauge is a tad high,, the red light below the zero on the speedo is the door open light, :) , it dosent have a symbol just red dot,, maybe a door wasnt fully shut and when the car was moving it was opening slightly

just noticed all the warning lights are on , and the engine is at 1200rpm .. think ye may have a bigger problem there or the clocks are on there way out very common fault on the focus

    That.
I know that light very well, it could be something like a door not closed or an engine management fault, but the fault would also be displayed in the LCD readout of the dash, nothing specific, but it would say if it was a door or something more serious.

I have this car. The red light comes on any time there is a message on the screen such as the door opening. If there's nothing on the screen I'm not sure what it could be.

Door open light if i understand you correctly, also had my Focus spaz at me one of the mornings because the boot wasn't properly closed, sounded like a computer messing up the windows error noise over and over and the LED display having a fit
