Ryanair dear to Spain, what's up?

I go to Spain 4 or 5 times a year, normally with RYR. I'm flexible with dates. Was in the habit of doing Dub-Madrid for less than €40, Dub-Malaga for less than €50, all returns.

The last few times I checked, this is with a deparure date 2 to 4 weeks in the future. Madrid is around €90 and Malaga over €120.

I know Spanish Airport costs have gone up, but is that the only thing behind these higher prices.

    🧐IMHO, God wants us all to ENJOY many,many ice-creams , 🍦🍦🍦🍦🍦🍦🍦🍦🍦🍦🍦🍦

The days of cheap flights with Ryanair are gone. Aer Lingus as cheap these days.

On the flights i take to spain its actually cheaper for me to fly aerlingus than ryanair. For me i find ryanair are never cheap on the routes where they are guarenteed to sell most of the seats.

Ive noticed too that the prices to Spain have shot up in the last few days/weeks.

To give an example, I booked last November for dates in May to Alicante.
total cost including all extras (seat selection etc) was €502

The exact same flights if I booked today are showing up as €785
I'm putting this down to supply and demand though.

However, Aer Lingus flights to the same airport on the same days with exact same criteria are currently costing €910

As a frequent flyer on this route I have yet to see Aer Lingus come anywhere near Ryanair on price at any stage on this route.

Not just Spain, but France and England are the same. E370 for flights between DUB-Paris B! That's for two people. I think that is ridiculous. Aer Lingus are E70 cheaper now.

Oil prices/Airport taxes and all other excuses really are to blame.

If your willing to drive you'll find some bargains outside Dublin with Ryanair, savings can be worth it for a family.

    Knock to:
    Alicante/Malaga/Gran Canaria/Tenerife/Lanzarote/Faro all between €90-120 return in May, Barcelona/Milan €69 return

Shannon to Palma/Malaga around same price.
Aer Lingus Belfast-Malaga/Palma/Faro are around €150-180 return.

For me anyway Aerlingus are cheaper for the cork-alicante than ryanair- knock to alicante.
And if your travelling from most places cork has the better transport access.

Not sure whats happening with the cork-alicante ryanair flight, i cant see it on the website so it might not happen this year.

Supply and demand and timing of course. As ever shop around. For example if I want to travel from Dublin and Gatwick tomorrow afternoon it will cost me €180. If I book now, same time, same route next month and it's €26. Same trip with Aer Lingus is more expensive on both days even with the cheapest fare. As someone who many years ago paid over £200, that's pounds for the same trip booked well in advance. I still think it's a bargain for a short notice trip.

In fairness as well, surely the last few weeks would have booked getaways to the sun, seeing as it is January and all. It would have something to do with it I would think..

Surprised there hasn't been more talk about this, or maybe I missed it.

I went Dub>Tenerife in November for €140 which compares well to what I paid 2 years ago(€110), cheap for 9 hours in the air.

Cheapest lights to Canaries increase by 30%, flights to Madrid, Malaga by 300%.

on Dub-Madrid route Ryanair's B738 would consume (very roughly) about 8 tonnes of fuel. With one KG at a price of about one euro (give or take) you should be able to realize - the price never should have been 40 euro in the first place! or in other words - other routes and passengers were paying more for you to be able to go cheaper. With limited competition and huge demand there's no reason for Ryanair to keep subsidising this route. They done their job, they got you hooked, now you pay for someone else to go to Whateverwille for a fraction of the actual cost
