If a car crash into your hitch has it to be replaced. Brother has just come in asking for money to fix a guys hitch he hit. He did all the damage to the car he was driving and know to the other guys car.

Common mistake to presume that the other car is fine only tow bar bent. Its very likely thats the only visible signs but the real damage is out of sight.

Ask him to send the quotes to him. The other guy is entitled to get it fixed at your brothers cost and at his choosen location but that still does not allow him to get more than he is entitled to.

Ring a few main dealers to get quotes for towbar and fitting to the same make of car. That will give you a ball park figure.

Suppose its the risk of going outside the insurance safety bubble. I'd just ask would he like to go down the insurance route or furnish receipts for the repair. And make it one or the other.

Your brother so far has done nothing wrong and the Gardai will just refer you to insurers. Unless he claims you did a hit and run but you'd easily disprove this with phone / text records etc.

Sounds like your man is out to make a fast buck or two.

Brother rang the guards after the accident and they said they wouldn't be coming out to just take each other details.

Brother rang his insurer and found out that he was not insured to drive the mothers car. Even though i am through my own insurer (axa)

Well the brother has already put the money into your mans account. Your man was not going to give any proof on how much the job or even if was getting anything done on the car
