My HP Pavilion G6 laptop keeps dropping it's internet connection and everything points to the Atheros AR9485 network adpater. The internet works fine with an ethernet cable. I have tried different fixes such as adjusting power saving settings which ensures that the network adapter won't switch off to save power. I also have selected maximum performance for the power settings for the adapter. I need the laptop so I can't have it sent away to be fixed. I think I will buy a usb wi-fi adapter. Can someone recommend one.

My own cisco router was faulty and they ran a new Coaxial cable into the house to try and solve the issue..everytime I started Qbittorrent the router would reset and block any wireless devices in the house and more worryingly the phone system would go down at same time, UPC replaced Cisco router with Thompson router and I've had no problems since..could be your problem

known problem with this network adapter, has awful problems with many different routers.

all you can do is either get a new router, or buy a Usb wireless adapter as you suggested.

was a massive problem at christmas when PC world and currys has these on sale, an awful lot were returned as faulty.

hopefully a simple update from atheros will soon fix the problem.
