allowing a farmer to cut my field

I have 4.5 acres which I'm using as a small holding.

    My neighbouring farmer seems friendly.

The grass had not been cut for 3-4 years but he did it for me. I let him have the bales and no money changed hands. Suited me fine.

I'm sure he will want to cut the grass again this year. Again, I have no problem with that and don't want any money.

Just wondering if I have to be aware of giving him any rights over the years by letting him do this?

Should I not let him do it one year to 'reset' the clock?
Or should I take payment for any reason, even if small?

Not sure how much of an issue it will be as eventually I will have the land laid out so that it will be difficult to get the machinery in and around, or I will get a grass cutter myself.

I wouldn't be too worried about the situation. If you are happy to let him have it for free, then let him have it. There is no need to break the cycle as he can have no claim to the rights to cut it unless it runs into large number of years.

You could always just charge him €1 for it if money isn't the issue. That way he will have paid for it.
