RunIreland now using Active network for entries

I only just noticed that race entries are now being handled by the Active network on RunIreland.

    http://www.cnbc.com/id/100361661

I had 2 races up on the RunIreland web-site (hadn't turned on on-line entries yet) and they are no longer on the web-site. I would have thought the very least that Runireland could have done was send an e-mail to all race directors that use their web-site to tell them of the change.

Looks like due to the new changes, old accounts are no longer recognised on the system.
Could cause some initial hassle for people having to re-register.

At least they didn't gift all our details to the 3rd party without notification (not that you'll have a choice in giving them your details for the new registration).

That's good but it's not an issue as I use Active as well. Just a bit strange that they didn't let us know about the change over.

On the plus side, I can now check for all the dog-sledding, sandball and horseshoe events on in Wexford.:D

It is good news. I always found the Active web-site far superior for managing a race. Runlreland always won out for me though from a race promotion point of view. I presume we just register on the Active Web-site from now on. Is there a future for RunIreland I wonder.

Runireland website is a mess, I couldn't make sense of the calendar today. Tried to get driving directions for a race at the weekend and ended up registering for it by mistake. Still don't know where that race is...

Am I the Only one who doesn't like the new calendar? I thought the old calendar was much better than the list.

Don't like it at all myself. I was hoping I would get used to it, but I just can't take to it at all...

Interesting thread about people's experiences (mainly in the U.S) with active.com.

    http://www.reddit.com/r/running/comments/17mmte/is_it_just_me_or_is_activecom_super_scammy/

The "Ticketmaster of the running world" description fills me with trepidation.

Also, I thought the old calender system was great.

The thing I loved about RunIreland was the map with all the events. I could click on Wexford and see all the running events within striking distance. There is an opening for someone to come up with a similar type service

    From their newsletter today:
On the 8th January, The ACTIVE Network, the leader in cloud-based Activity and Participant Management™ (APM), announced a strategic alliance with Run Ireland, the largest website for running events in Ireland. As the official technology partner, ACTIVE Network will handle the online registration for events listed on Run Ireland’s site to make finding and signing up for endurance events online even easier.

With more than six million page views last year, Run Ireland is a preeminent source for people in Ireland to find ways to get active. Importantly, this will provide an additional marketing channel for us to publicise your events. As ACTIVE Network focuses on streamlining registration and event management processes, Run Ireland staff will continue to manage its consumer website.

5 years ago all the races were using active. No big deal. Always preferred using active europe, was a good way to search for races.

Runireland accepted laser and active does not. People are getting more and more marginalised for not having credit cards.

i have a race on runireland.com ... they changed the info during their changeover to active ... i have been on the runireland for 2 weeks and the info on the site is still incorrect.. passwords and user names dont work either... a complete mess if you ask me.. the admin support from runireland is very poor..:(

Precision Timing offer Laser payment on their on-line registration.

I thought Lasers have been totally replaced by debit cards?

Hmm yeh from a race director point of view I've always had problems with RunIreland, and mistakes made in the description that I send in of races I was trying to promote. Never got a reply to emails that I sent in to them asking to change the information! Now all I do is put the very bare information up for a race, like a website and contact details!

Very few banks still issuing laser cards. Most customrs should have been switched to visa debit by now...

I'm with Danske and still on Laser.
Laser was always another reason for me to go with RunIreland instead of Active.

Never found RunIreland bad from that point of view. I always maintained the entry myself through their web forms.

Laser is a dead duck, there is no point in any website developing support for it. It'll be completely gone very soon.

Yep, I am in possession of one of those Visa Debit cards for the past 6 weeks.

Could they not keep using the old calendar and still let active handle entries?

About to register for a race runireland, Kilbride 10k to be exact, but page not encripted, and on page properties says website does not support encryption. can I trust the verisign mark, or does anyone know if can pay for this race on the day?

I have tried to enter races through active global on runireland, impossible they dont accept my email address so i cant login i have emailed them a week ago no answer.
i have emailed runireland.com no real help, they said i have to reregister but how can i do that if they dont accept my email address as valid even though it is?
Apparently i have 2 accounts, so cant accept registrations, i have only 1 email address so this is their fault for giving me 2 accounts but i cant get them to fix it by cancelling one account. I'm going round in circles with them. Anyone any suggestions?

Have you tried going through the forgot password process. http://www.activeglobal.com/Register/index.cfm?AC=ForgotPW
Will it accept your e-mail address there.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 35 chrissymc

I can only get a reply from the forgoten password giving me my correct password! so no good there cos guess what? try to enter details -- wont accept, i'm going round in circles so hate this new setup. I think race numbers will be down if this is not sorted.

Have you tried to contact the race organisers directly chrissymc? I'd imagine you are not the only person having the problem.

Sounds like a good approach. A bit of pressure from a race organizer might encourage them to get the finger out and sort it.

Did you already have an account on Active before Runireland was merged in to it. Did Runireland add your Runireland account in on top of it. All sounds very sloppy either way.

Have you tried a different browser?

Its been a disaster altogether. Cant wait for the annual scrum of the Galway 5k series to come around again, the Active servers might be able to handle the traffic better than the Run Ireland ones, but nobody will be able to register.

For the past few weeks I've heard nothing but bad news as people were trying to enter for an 8k race in Maree (Galway) at the weekend and just could not get around the Active website.

Run Ireland seem to have taken a huge step backwards in going forward with this.

Just search for whatever race you're looking for on the active website and register that way.

Was trying to register for two races over the past week or so.. Missed one of them completely because the registration was such a mess, and the other one took half an hour.. People will give up on registering if its that difficult. There was nothing wrong with the old system, why the change?

I had to use this a while back to sign up for the Rock & Road HM and beyond the initial pain of filling in registration details, it was all very straight forward and done in a matter of minutes.

Are people having issues with specific races, or is it when creating an active.com account?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,340 ✭✭✭TFBubendorfer

I find I have to log into my active account first, and then search for the race I want to sign up.

If I'm already logged in, the processes is very straightforward.
If I try to enter a race without being logged first, however, it's a complete pain (until I remember to log in first). There's definitely an issue on the active site, but you can work around it.

The Active website is unable to process any requests this evening due to 'higher than normal volume'

Same as , I'm a race director and tried to log in , seems I've two accounts !!!
Did the password request but no joy, spent hours trying to sort it, emailed the " help line " & the guys in active , still waiting on a reply, 3 weeks later!!!!! . So vote with your feet guys , lots of other online registration company's out there, that's what I did. Also got a cheaper rate !!!
Pity coz run ire was great in the past .

i would agree.. the active.com. works well when you are logged in, and payment is quick .. the problem is trying to log in to access race details as a race organiser..

I just picked a random race on Run Ireland website, box came up for my active registration and it took my log in straight away. I suspect the problem is with your active accounts.

You were right about the visa debit btw, as you already know :D
Rang them and they said they were rolling them out over 6 months or something stupid like that. So i reported my laser card lost ect... :D

I am also a race director and have had some trouble with the new site.

Its best to forget about runireland and your logins etc and just register with activeglobal.com. Once registered go back to runireland or find your event on activeglobal and register for your race. It should be straight forward.
