What has happened to the HL section in the BLU?

I graduated from Trinity in 2011 and subsequently took out a Graduate Reader's card, which I use to access the library about once a month, mainly to catch up with journals or read a book or two.

Throughout my time as an undergrad, I would always find an eclectic array of titles in the HL Section in the Berkeley Basement. I know it's slightly nerdy, but I used to occasionally pop down to the HLs for a browse, invariably coming across something interesting or unexpected to have a quick read of.

I was in the BLU last weekend and popped to the HL section to find that the lights were off and all the books seemed to have been removed from the shelves.

Does anyone know has the HL section become no-more, or has it just been relocated? Have the books that were there been given new shelfmarks and put elsewhere?

I'm just interested out of curiosity more than anything. Thanks in advance to anyone who can assist.

The HL books are still in place in the Lower Basement of the Berkeley Library - it sounds like someone forgot to turn the lights on the last day you were in. The empty shelves are due to the books being moved to Santry periodically as the shelves in the Lower Basement fill up.

Out of interest, what kind of books are these?

HL stands for "Hardback Large" so they are hardbacks greater than 21 cm but no higher than 27 cm tall.

They are also not borrowable by undergrads and are not core textbooks...subejectwise they cover everything from biographies to cookery books.

I think they're books that are non core but reasonably recent aswell?! Found a few bizzare computer science/electronic engineering ones burried down there in the last few months i needed for a project that were all published in the last two years or so

That's right. They are the most recently received hardback books sent to the Library under its Legal Deposit remit (Legal Deposit meaning that the Library must receive a copy of every UK and Irish publication).
