Bottom Bracket

Apoligies for the dumb question (newbie).

It feels like my bottom bracket is on the way out and I would like to replace it (buy the part and have a friend fit it when he is around next weekend).

The bike is a Giant Defy 3 (2012) and the owners manual simply states that the bottom bracket is : Shimano External. On the outside of the cups it says BC1.37 x 24 Road.

Can anyone recommend a suitable bottom bracket to purchase.

Looking at the pic for the Defy 2012, and based on your saying that there are BB cups, I'd guess that any Shimano Hollowtech II BB from the road range should suffice, e.g. http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Models.aspx?ModelID=67221

There would be a question over BB shell size (English v Italian Thread), but most likely it's the English thread one you need.

The BC1.37 x 24 numbers you noted confirm that it's an English thread bottom bracket that's needed, as opposed to Italian thread.

Hi does anyone know which bottom bracket fits my Giant Defy 5 2012? The manual doesn't say much. Is there an online resource which will tell me the part I need. I called the shop and he said to take out the old one and email him a picture. I might have to but I'd prefer to have a few more rides on the bike while the new part arrives to have min downtime...

I googles the manual giant defy 5 and it just says BOTTOM BRACKET RPM Cartridge

AFAIK, 73x113 if the bike is a double or compact, 73x118 if the bike is a triple.

Thanks Irish, that's the same spec as the one I got. I chanced the local bike shop and they had one for €17.50 so I was able to put it in when I got home
