    On phone so no link.
I heard on radio today that Atari has closed its doors after 40 years.
They can't compete with Xbox etc.

So I guess that puts an end to it being included in polls.

The Jaguar's patent had been sold off years ago and is now used as a dentistry machine :pac:

Atari died a long time ago. French holding company Infogrames bought the name and the logo years ago but did nothing with them.

I used to work at the old Atari in Silicon valley and the real "Atari" closed years ago.

But ten years ago(?) a french company (Infogrames) bought the Atari name. But other than the name and some game rights there was no connection to the famous old company.

So no need to mourn. Some iteration will probably resurface eventually.

To be fair Infogrames was a well respected game company with a good track record.

They are just filing for Bankruptcy to separate from Infogrames. They want to be Atari without any control from anybody else.

True. Except they're selling the logo which I dont quite understand because I dont think they're selling the name(???).

I think Nolan Bushnell is on the board of the french company so hopefully he's got a hand in this and there's a plan afoot.

    :)

Are they selling the logo?:eek:

I thought that was an earner for then the last few years, licensing it out to people?

Jaysus, i wonder how much the logo goes for, that would be worth a lot for licencing i'd say. T-shirts, probably a line of clothing..

I remember the time Frogger put a fly in Yar's sandwich, Oh, the craic we had.

    But it didn't end there..

Oddly enough Howard Scott Warshaw, the man who created Yar's Revenge writes a great column about life at Atari during the 80s. I think it's fascinating to read how a new form of entertainment was created by a bunch of teenagers who didn't know what they doing.

I'm after reading loads there, beginning with Atari on Wikipedia, then going off following links.. Onceuponatari.com? Is that the column?
Then went further reading. Mad. They were about to buy Nintendo and were the fastest growing company in the world.. and the biggest.. Is there a book?

    Will look around..

Yeah, he writes a monthly column in the GamesTM magazine but there's a load of his previous articles on that site http://onceuponatari.com/archives/gamestm/index.html

    :)

It was during the decline when there was 2 "divisions". I worked on arcade games. Driving games mostly. We had a driving "model" that was the most realistic of all the arcade game makers, add to that force feedback steering, manual gear lever, clutch, brake and accel and a Huge Sub Woofer in the seat that made it feel like there was a V8 behind you when you revved, made it incredibly fun.

And it was the beginning of networking games together (early 90's) so you can imagine having four of those units hooked together in the lab made for long evenings.

...anyway... yes. It was Fun. While it lasted!

    Steve Jobs worked there.
