Hey - anyone got any inside knowledge of rough timings for this years cadet competition?

If you are still in school, go and ask your careers guidance teacher. They know the start times of all State recruitments.

The decision to enlist recruits for general service or to run a cadetship competition requires not only sanction from the minister for Defence but also from the department (and presumably) minister for Finance.

Best thing to do is keep an eye on the Defence questions in the Dail. Traditionally the competitions would have been announced in late jan/feb.

Thanks for the replies. I'm long out of school at this stage Stovepipe cheers though.

Neilled - ye it wasn't taken out of the budget and I've a few friends in it telling me a few different timings.

Reason I'm asking is I'm away abroad working so I"ll need to have an idea to come back or when etc...

Keep your ear to the ground and on public jobs etc. But its usually Jan / Feb before competition is announced. September / October are the usual starting times. As for insider info. No such thing! Just keep watching online, the DF Facebook page announce the opening of competitions too.
