My friend applied for an advertised public sector position 6 month ago. He hasn't heard anything from their HR since. Is there a time limit that some form of feedback must be provided, be it positive or negative? Any expert opinion/information? Thanks.

After 6 months, I think it's fairly safe to assume the application wasn't successful...

SOMETIMES you might hear something back, particularly if the position was on hold or awaiting sign-off, but this is rare.

It's normal to submit applications only for them to disappear into the ether, never to be seen again. I've said it before. If I get a PFO, I consider it a result!!

General rule of thumb: If you haven't heard anything back within a month, then consider the application unsuccessful.
