I'm looking for a bit of info on the above gear/brake lever. I need a spare but so far have only come across similar levers with a number after it such as, ST3500, ST3304, ST3503 etc

Should the lever I'm looking for also have a number?

The bike in question is a Specialized Allez and the full specs are in the link below. The part is only listed as "Shimano Sora STI".

Shimano components usually have the part number stamped on them. For shifters try peeling back (or forward) the rubber hood and looking under it. Alternatively, try finding the part number of the front or rear mech and assume the shifters are from the same series, a series being 33xx, 34xx or 35xx.

You can also look at the Shimano Tech docs where detailed drawings of the various components are available.

I had a look and there's no part numbers on any part of the gear system, it just says Shimano Sora :(

Would I be able to use a newer version of the shifters on my bike, or would I have to use the same as what I have?

Its a 3400 series on that bike but a 3500 will work just as well. Rose bikes had them on sale the other day.

Loads of sites have 2300(8 speed) or 3500 (new style, 9 speed) but none I can find with right hand 2500 style.

Ebay might be your best bet? Or ask in Cycling Adverts?

If you're willing to buy a new set manye just buy a set of the new 3500's?

    They're way nice to use.

I'm buying with the intention of trading in for an upgrade, so want to keep the cost down.

Send Rose customer service an email saying that you're disappointed with their service and ask if as a gesture of goodwill they will sell you a set of the 3500 with a discount. Happened to me last year with a 105 cassette which turned out not to be in stock I contacted them and they sent me an ultegra one for the same price.

Thats a good idea, I'll chance it. I already emailed telling them how disappointed I was with their service.
