Where to: Pick up cheap alloys

Had car in a for a service, both front wheels buckled "like 50p pieces". So I've decided to replace the stock steel wheels. I'm thinking alloys but I don't care enough to spend a lot of money. I need new tyres anyway, so would it worth going with one of the deals from Halfords? Or could I get a better deal on alloys & tyres around the €500 mark?
It'd be nice to go second-hand but I fear I don't know enough about alloys to avoid buying a dud.

Car is a Scenic, does less than 8,000km/year and mostly on Dublin roads. Just one or two long trips per year.

Or should I just pick up two new steel wheels from a scrap yard and not waste my money on cheap alloys?

IMO I would stay away from Halfords alloys, their alloys are quite skanger looking.

I honestly think second hand is the way to go.

Just look out for cracks in the alloys and harsh curbing marks. Also make sure the tyres on the second hand alloys hasn't small nips/hole in the side walls. If the seller is selling tyres with them.

    Afew adds on donedeal. http://cars.donedeal.ie/find/alloyswheels/for-sale/Ireland/Scenic?filter%28max_price%29=Max+Price&filter%28min_price%29=Min+Price&source=all

Now, I'm not great with sizes ect. so I hope someone else can help with that.

Your local scrappie should have a variety of alloys to suit

If you are in Dublin, Richie in Pro Parts takes wheels in part exchange for alloys he sells. He usually has 2nd hand OEM alloys and tyre packages for various car manufacturers....might be worth giving him a shout.

If your stock steel wheels are bashed about then I wouldn't advise fitting alloys, they aren't as strong as steel wheels in general.
Steels rarely give problems with air leaks unless they are very badly dented.
