It's a magic key. You are the chosen one.

Or its the cold weather and the spark was a static discharge.

    Either way. Cool.

I got that before when i touched the metal on the cooker. Don't forget we are all made of electricity so it doesn't surprise me when this happens of touching metal.

Electro static shock, if you could hear and see the spark it is at least 4500-5000 volts.

    I can explain.

What happened was when the key and the lock touched, a blue spark jumped out. Kind of like pregnancy.

For science, what materials were all objects, key, lock, door.

Mostly likely static, but could be electronegativity.
Ambient conditions could also be playing a part.

Or you wired the electric bell wrong and, then you could be killed.

Electric bell could have a damaged wire onto door circuit or live is damaged coming into house onto a metal door frame.

All becoming increasingly dangerous - move house. Do not use door again. :p

    You are the keymaster.
I have searched these lands for you for nigh on a thousand years.
Soon, I shall use your powers to unlock the very gates of hell.
I am somewhat surprised to find you in after hours.

:D How do you think your brain fires neurons, it sends out an electrical signal to send to parts of your body to move but it looks like YOUTUBE's neurons brain sent out too many .

Window or back door. You could take a chance with the materials on inside , let us know if you die.

I always knew you would be a bright spark.

Jesus, OP you should try living in a desert climate - the air is so dry here my cat looks like a Tesla coil when she moves over a carpet with the lights off!

Poor thing gets a static shock from everything she touches with her nose.

Bugger. Never thought of that. He's Vince Clortho!!

Any chance you look a bit like Rick Moranis, OP?

Certainly would explain the blue spark.

I'd say what probably happened was that Youtube was standing at his front door and it was very dark and as he proceeded to penetrate his key into said lock he fumbled with the key and it would not make contact with said lock for so long that the amount of neurons fireing electrical charges built up and proceeded to send accumulations of electrical energy to his hand in which case a small lightning bolt ensued.

Standard metal key touching on to Brass lock.

I had just moved my car from the road into the drive for the night,
came in tried to lock up after myself and BADOOOM! Blue spark and little clicky noise ejects from key giving me a little static ,but feeling a bit stronger than static jolt on hand, I am not the better for it, shocking literally.

Thought it'd be something along those lines. Thanks!

Perhaps the car key thing played a part , it was a current carrying conductor in a field - or static :p

Have you any supper powers since, have you tested all your body parts.

    is that not amperage ?
the higher the amps the quicker it will get ya

It's the current that kills you, not the voltage.

In normal electrical circuits, the current is proportional to the voltage. So the higher the voltage, the higher the current through the body when connected across the source, so the shock received does indeed depend on voltage, among other things.

For static charging of small areas, it is a stored charge for a small amount of energy. The discharge lasts for microseconds, and is only a small energy transfer, so does no damage to a person.

But static can kill, in the form of lightning.

Your letter for Hogwarts is on the way. Usually you get a hornbeam or holly wood wand, but your hall door key has chosen you so get used to it.

    Current is measured in amps.
