    RIP to Michael Winner.

I always liked his brash slightly irreverend style and the fact that he was happy to disccuss any topic at length without fear of stepping on the toes of those who seek to be offended at every turn.

    RIP.
Enjoyed him as a food critic.

    RIP.
Enjoyed him as a food critic.

And me, I loved the tongue-in-cheek nature of his writing, the blatant name dropping and the letters from "fans" that would make it into his column on Sunday Times. RIP, a legend. :(

I'm obviously one of the few people who didn't like him then.

Also, in before any 'calm down dear'.

Me too, couldn't stand him and that God awful 'calm down dear' ad made me want to slap him.

I will always remember him for the Winner Wave.

When ignored by waiting staff in a restaurant, he would wave his napkin around in circles above his head until someone paid attention.

    Legend.

I seem to get my news from Boards.ie these days.

His column in the Sunday Times was interesting only for the arslickan letters he got from people comparing their experiences.

Once The ST had a lttle coupon printed in the paper which you were supposed to cut out and bring with you when eating out. This was designed to warn the staff that you were a Serious Person and were entitled to top class service.
I can only imagine the gales of laughter from the kitchen when such a knobhead was spotted with his voucher on display.

I loved his restaurant column. I always think its sad to see a strong character go, even if I don't personally warm to them. He did some good stuff for the police, he was pretty good at not taking himself seriously and full of self regard at the same time.

He definitely wasn't boring, in contrast to about 99.9% of so called 'celebs'. High praise indeed.
