    Hi lads,

Am looking for a FM transmitter for the new car, it's a Mazda 3, no aux in or bluetooth.

I already have an iPod specific iTrip but need something generic now for my Android phone (i.e a 3.5mm aux in).

I was googling and came across the following: Transmitter

It's powered by the cigarette lighter socket, has the 3.5mm in and also takes SD cards and USB sticks. The SD and USB slots could be handy for me as well.

Anyone familiar with this type or anyone have other suggestions? Thanks.

For the price and the "features" that one has, I would be somewhat skeptical of its quality. I'd personally go for a dedicated FM transmitter only.

Realistically FM transmitters aren't the greatest if you're after sound quality, but the cheap one are definitely something I would avoid. Could be worth a punt though at that price, it'll really be more a case of trial and error of those kinds of ones until you find a decent one. :)

What you really want is a piece of kit called AuxMod from a company called Sylfex. It's a board that goes in place of where the "tape deck" would be and provides an Aux-In feed. You will get much more clarity and a bonus selling point. Only $60 USD, I was going to get one more my 6 but then it was out of stock. Check it out here:

Brave enough for one small drill hole and it can look like this:

PS: FM transmitters are ****, no one will ever provide a decent sound.

    Hi Super Sonic

My experience with them has been that they can lose the signal at times. I have one you are welcome to have if you want to PM me a way of getting it to you.

I've had a few of those gizmo's in the past. None of them ever worked properly. They struggle to find an empty frequency to use, and when they do, there's a lot of background interference coming through the speakers.

    Save ya money..!!

My old nokia N8 had a built in fm transmitter and it never lost frequency, amazing bit of kit, cant understand why every smartphone hasn't got one.

Had a universal one before that and was pretty poor alright.

Well, tested many FM transmitters so far.

Maybe just I was unlucky, maybe not, but none of them provided sound quality even near good.

If car's stereo has a possibility to connect a CD changer, I'd recommend Xcarlink (or something similar), otherwise replace with aftermarket (quite tricky, but possible) or just (sadly) keep what you have. ;)

    Thanks for the info lads.

Looks like I'll have to go with what advertsfox or joujoujou suggested.

Also thanks very much for the offer of the transmitter Aliensrus, sound. Think I'll leave it though and just investigate other options, thanks anyway. :)

Have a look here, doesn't look too complicated and very cheap. The original topic is for a newer Mazda 3 that has a media button instead of tape/MD but the last page of the thread explains a bit for the older model. I have a 2005 and I'm hoping to give this a go Saturday. I'll let u know how I got on.
