Attic flooring - questions about heat loss

    Hey all,
Slowly moving towards wall plate, and getting to the point where I need to decide on the form the attic space will take.
I'd like to use the attic for storage, so I intend to floor it. However, I want to minimize the heat loss from the 1st floor.
To this end, I believe that I'm better off insulating entirely on the flat between the joists, then counter-battening and running a second layer of insulation over and perpendicular to the first. This combined with an insulated attic trap-door should minimize the heat loss. The attic is then a fully cold attic, with no insulation between the rafters.

The problem that presents is the effect that cold will have on the items being stored in that space in terms of mould growth/dampness, etc.

I could create a room in the attic space that then forms part of the air-tightness and insulation envelope of the house, but I'm worried about heat loss from the 1st floor space underneath the attic room area.

Anyone got any ideas/experience around having a mould free(ish) area in the attic with exacerbating heat loss from the space below?
