Well not me, my in laws.

They got sky just before they where installing only the hd box. It's the standard sky with no sky plus and a glowing blue sky logo on the front.

For some reason I'm under the impression that they can call Sky and get the hd box for free, since Sky plus comes as standard now.

I'd say ye'll have to pay for it! They dont have a tendency for giving out Sky boxes for free to existing customer. New customers get them free alrite

Right. Maybe it was in the UK then. I'm sure I read it somewhere, or not.

Might be worth ringing them to ask or cancelling if they are out of contract and re-signing up as a new customer?

There is that. Problem with calling and asking is a lottery as to whether the CSR knows.

Free Sky+ HD box for existing customers. €30 set up fee and €15/month for a min 12 months. So thats a total of €210 for a year

You/your sis would be better off getting a HD box on Adverts.ie and get Sky to pair the card with it.

Call them - they were doing the HD for a €5 a month last week, might be still on

The thing is, the inlaws are more interested in the plus functionality.

    They're still using a VCR.

It depends on how long they have been with Sky and basically what amount of money they have paid in subscription charges. If they only signed up in the last year they may get some sort of offer or discount. If they have been there for a good while and have not received an offer before then they could threaten to cancel or even just say they're looking about a Sky+ box but cant afford it and the sub and play it by ear basically.

I posted in another thread here today about a guy in Waterford selling new Sky+ HD boxes for €70. Its another €17 if he has to post. He has a shop down there so well worth a look.

    Hi,

That's €87, worth trying SKY first.
I've been offered the €5 for hd for a year, which will get me a free hd+ box, installation is €30, so €90 all in.
I don't really care about the hd but I am curious to see if it's any good and at least I have some guarantee that the box will work. I'm going to get the install guy to run some cables to a different room too so I get my moneys worth.
