Just been having a chat with a friend and Wonder Burger came up, hadnt thought about that place in years!

It was a fast food place I think they had a few chains about Dublin anyway! My local one as a kid was in Northside Shopping Centre in Dublin I was never taken to it tho(it was probably a bit of a dump in hindsight). Just said id make a nostalgia thread as im curious if anyone knows what happened to them or has any Funny stories about the place!

Yes! I used to go to school in Chanel Coolock and we were taken to the swimming pool on the Northside shopping centre every Friday, snuck into Wonder Burger a few times and thought it was great, as a 7 year old.
In hindsight, remembering it was right beside the pet shop in the NSC, I’m not too sure…:)

Anyway, remember the radio jingle for NSC – “Northside, Booooom!, Northside, boooom!, the great big shopping centre!”…it’s all coming back to me now :D

Yep..i used to workl in Beshoffs on westmoreland st and Wonderburger was two doors up from us.

I often used to go in there for food, especially the actual "Wonderburger" which was a double decker similar to a Big Mac but tastier imo.

It was often the scene of some brutal late night fracas too.

When did it close in Northside? I reckon about ten years ago? I used to quite like it, it had little advantages over mc donalds like curry chips

God i'd say it was more than 10 years ago now. I remember when the McDonalds express opened there. I dont think they were both open at the same time!

I worked in the Westmoreland street branch 1989/90. First summer/part time job college job. Best fun ever! So many stories, you would not believe. Mad fight on New Years, watched an ambulance pull up outside, the 2 paramedics looked in from the ambulance, looked at each other, and then drove on!
Also great craic during the world cup...... night manager was a nutter!

Wasn't there one on O Connell St too. I think I remember one where McDs is now, near the DO'C statue.
Used to hang out in it a bit in 1991.

Just remembered - I was thinking of Burgerland.

I remember the one in Northside. I think it was further up from where McD's is now. There was a pet shop beside it.

I worked in the branch in Westmoreland Street while still at school. Had great craic working there. Robbie the manager was great laugh :-) was a bit mental at nighttime there always was some sort of fight on the streets outside!

Ah what great memories I have of Wonderburger! And that sauce!! Hmmm..........lovely! They used to put the sauce on their version of the Big mac which I thought was far superior to McDonalds. A typical trip into Dublin city for me back in the late 80's was a 19A bus in, get off near Clerys, cross the Road trying not to get knocked down and or stare at the Lady who used to pace up and down shouting prayers......but always smiling in fairness!!
I'd Walk over the spot where that ridiculous stupid "Spike/Spire"now stands.
Then into Easons for a free look at the magazines! And the poor girl pacing up and down asking people not to read them!!!
It was off to Sounds Around then to buy a vinyl LP and a single or two......maybe even a cassette and a poster of Debbie Harry!
After a trip to Pat Egans for an LP record of a band no one ever heard of!!........ it was eating time!
And there on Westmoreland street was Wonderburger! So armed with an early edition of The Evening Press, in I would go and order a Wonderburger and fries and extra sauce on the Wonderburger!
Checking out the cinema page in the paper as I tucked into the best burger in Dublin, I would throw the odd shy glance at the gorgeous girl working behind the counter! I often wonder, (no pun intended!), where She ended up?
It was off to the Adelphi then for a film and back home after.
Another great day in town done and dusted!
All changed now and Wonderburger gone forever.....along with the lovely sauce......and that girl!!
Soon those trips began to change into pub visits and we still managed a Wonderburger somewhere along the way to line the stomach!
We found a new spot too for that "after eight pints" food craving called "Mandy's" which was on O'Connell Street close to the bridge.
Their version of the Big Mac was called a "Maxi Mandy"! And wowsa! It also had a delicious sauce to equal the legendary Wonder sauce.
So it was happy days or nights I should say!
Mind you it was hard going if you spotted a 13 or 19A bus pass by the window of Mandy's as it was burst out the door and sprint up to bus stop, all the time trying to stuff the burger down asap!
Mandy's closed down sometime around 1990 I would guess. Various rumours were going around about Rodent infestation or just poor hygiene...............ugh!
Don't like to think too much about how many burgers we ate there!!
Anyway, eventually Wonderburger folded up as well which was sad really. Wonderburger were also in Northside Shopping Centre and also over in Crumlin.
And sadly....that delicious sauce.....went with them! Oh yeah and the gorgeous girl that worked in Westmoreland street......was gone too!

Everybody loved the sauce, always asking what was in it, but it was a trade secret 😉 Was a great first job to have, great craic.

I worked next door in Beshoffs. Slightly more refined clientele at night time but plenty of dippers and junkies during the day. saw a fair few tear-ups outside the place too with one bloke wrapping his shin around a bus stop whilst trying to kick somebody on the ground. Great times!

I started working in Wonderful WonderBurger in Westmoreland Street 1986, done my training there till the Ballyfermot branch opened in 1987, Mark Daly, Paula Gough and Robbie ?? were some managers I can remember, when Ballyfermot opened Mark Daly was manager along with Shane Spooner, we also had a Seán Kavanagh, Liam ?? and Paramaus??, it would be great to have a reunion of managers and staff if anyone is interested for a catch up?
