Firebird Silver Boilerhouse CR26 Wont Turn Off

    Hey guys quick question

Im wondering if i can get some help, my oil central heating has a mind of its
own and will run almost continuously.

there are 2 thermostats in the house, both turned all the way down.
The main timer and control switch in the kitchen is set to off.

There is also a thermostat in the boilerhouse, also turned down to minimum.

    Details:

    Riello Firebird Silver Boilerhouse CR26

Thermostat in boilerhouse: Firebird I-Stat dual

I guess it could be an internal thermostat for extreme weather but if
it goes below 5-10 degrees the heating just goes flat out.

    Couple of observations:

This may be linked with the hot water tank. There are valves there that has an auto and manual. If its auto it seems electricity continually heats it, if its manual the heating keeps it hot. The on/off and sink/bath switches are set to off. I have no idea what these valves are for so they may/may not be related.

If the thermostat downstairs is off, the heating will still keep running but not heat downstairs. The thermostat upstairs seems to be ignored.

The thermostat upstairs prob isn't broken, if i adjust it i can hear the little click for activation when i go past the approx temperature in the room. e.g. if its 20 degrees in the room, when i turn the thermostat above 20 is makes the noise that they do.

    I've attached some pics

    Pic 1: Boiler
Pic 2: Boiler with thermostat in boilerhouse
Pic 3: Valves by the immersion tank
Pic 4: The little booklet by the valves

Any help would be greatly appreciated before i run out of oil :)

is there an isolating spur switch for your boiler it will most likely be found near your time clock.(It looks like a like a light switch http://image.made-in-china.com/2f0j00keSEzWVCbQis/13-AMP-Switched-Fused-Spur-Unit-A113-.jpg)If you can find it you can use it to manually shut off the power to the boiler. Then I would advise you to get a plumber/electrician asap to have a look at your heating controls. From your description it sounds like a total CLUSTER F**k and next to impossible to guide you in trying to correct with out actually being there

Thanks guys, i dont think anything is stuck but it behaves a lot like a frost setting. It is much worse when it gets cold but not freezing.

any ideas on what to look for with the frost settings?

I found the mains switch for the heating and can turn it off from there
so can use that for the time being. Only pity is cold mornings, i cant set the heating on timer :)

A frost stat looks like a room thermostat but different settings, if you dont see it in the boilerhouse then check the loft, coldest place is favourite.

Giving a very cold spell now so think twice about switching all off.
