VRT OMSP - Accurate?

Looking to source a new car at the moment. I'm looking at the Alfa Romeo Brera 2.4 JTD. Only one in Ireland for sale at the minute which is a bit too old and high mileage for me.

I've done a few calculations taking the lowest price Brera on UK sites and using just under this as a base for what their going for. I'm then checking the VRT amounts adding together and finding that it comes in around 3k more than the OMSP so doesn't look like a good option based on that.

I'd have thought that their valuation was usually on the high side which makes less sense for me trying to source one.

Are the OMSP a good base to go by then or is there somewhere else reliable?

I wouldn't rely on the OMSP. Sometimes they get it a lot wrong.

On a rare enough car like a brera there wouldn't really be any rule of thumb or yardstick.

Hard to price here when theres only one for sale alright. Couple of petrol ones for sale here but they've been up for months and not selling. Seem overpriced

I suppose you'd have to benchmark it against its rivals.

It really comes down to what you think its worth to you.

I crashed my car recently, the insurance companies assessor valuation was nearly twice that of the OMSP book value.

It was also an Alfa fwiw.
