This is something I have been wanting to do for a long while but I actually did not have the courage of going alone.

However I am now going the end of March with a organised tour all by mself:-)

If anyone has any advice or recommendations I would really like to hear.

Like for example I am expecting I will not need much pocket money there, however I may be incorrect?

I am really nervous of going alone.

    M

I think you need to have a chat with a few people in your area who have been there. Write down a list of questions you might have and ask them. Your local priest might know someone who can help you. I drove through it once on my way to Mostar so you can pm me your questions if you want but I think a face to face chat with someone in your parish would be more helpful to you.

Not true. Parts of the town of Mostar are Christian, have been for centuries. Mostar is a mix of Muslim Bosniaks, Catholic Croats and Orthodox Serbs.

It's history is a sad one but a beautiful place; if you have time visit http://www.muslibegovichouse.com/ a restored/preserved Ottaman merchant's house. You can stay in the house, and it is lovely to walk around Mostar at night when the tourists have largely gone. It really is one of the special places of the world watching the sunset and hearing the muezzin chant the call to prayer. As Obama once said..“one of the prettiest sounds on earth at sunset”.

Personally I found Medjugorije as a place to stay a complete kip, but I recognise why people wish to visit. Do take some side trips, Dubrovnik and Sarajevo are amongst my favourite places on earth.

I wouldn't be too worried about going alone.
    The local people are friendly.

Locally, I would really recommend a trip to Mostar, the waterfalls at Kravice, a whitewater rafting daytrip on Neretva and to try Cevapi.

My phone never works when I am there. So people from home might have difficulty contacting you.

I was there twice, and didn't go with any group. While there I went on a couple of excursions such as the waterfalls at Kravice and Dubrovik - you will love it!

I was there in 2004, Medjugorje is a small place a couple strips of Pilgrimage shops.

I found the public services to Mostar to be limited. Far better Public services to Split and there may be organised buses to Dubrovnik (about 6 hours by bus).

Mostar is a very nice town, unfortunately part of the frontline went through the centre of town and has taken some damage. But it is worth the effort.
I would recommend you try ad stay in BiH as it's a hilly mountainous country. Maybe reaching Sarajevo which has an old Turkish quarter, regentrified with shops and restaurants.
