Hi All Please excuse me if this has been asked before. I have Sky+ Tv in sitting room.

It's currently not working and an engineer is coming out next week to install a new Box. I plan to get new cables also run through the house and a new dish and LNB as these are old (water logged and corried) and causing the signal to fail.

Now that i will have a second Sky Box I want to use this and but into Kids play room.

Is it a simple as running cable from a free LNB connector to the second sky box and I'll get the free to air channels.

    Thanks

Sky plus uses 2 cable from the LNB at the dish as 1 cable to record and one cable is used to watch. Ask the engineer that is coming out to replace your dish if he could put a quad LNB at the dish saying that you might contact sky at a later date to put a second box in but not yet. You will have 2 spare contacts to connect up to and then you will be able to connect the other box to 1 of them and recieve your free channels, But dont tell them what the LNB is really for cos they will give you a monthly bill on top of the one you are already recieving

Sorry for jumping in here and bumping an old thread but I have an old sky box and was hoping to put it into my sons bedroom for the upcoming world cup. He already has a tv there for his xbox. He just want just want the usual free channels....UTV and BBC would show all games anyway. My question is, can I get what the earlier poster was talking about,(running second wire up to the sons bedroom) done without contacting sky. If I get someone for a local tv store to do it, how much would it cost appox.
I don't want it to interfere with the sky box in the living room as it is used quite a bit to record stuff, and don't want to lose this feature.
    Thanks

Is there a coax cable running to the bedroom ?
if you can find the other end in the attic Run a new satelite cable to a free oint on the LNB on your sat dish - connect with F Connectors

    No need to involve sky

Hi just wondering if someone could answer - is the Sky box referred to above a standard Sky+ Box? I've read somewhere that you won't get BBC's ITV'S etc. with a Sky+ HD box, I'd appreciate if someone could clarify this for me thanks.

HD or ordinary you will not get itv on sky subscription bbc you will get but all the itv channels are free so you will get them in extra channels including all the 5 channels plus alot more

But what I'm trying to say is, can i use an old Sky+ box (WITHOUT sky subscription) to get all the English free channels? or will i have to get a combo box?

as you have no subscription then take the card out and all the free channels will pop up. There are quite a few. All the itv ones the channel4 ones all the 5 ones even film 4 plus loads of others

If its a HD box that system doesnt work any more. Some FTA channels can be got but nothing near the amount that used to be. To access the full range of available FTA channels you need a UK card

muffler is correct, an old sky box would be better but you can get a new free to air of the internet for about 60 euros. Oh and the plus does not work any more when you have no subscription on the sky+ so you might as well get a new box. No need to alter the dish just plug the new box straight to the cable that was attatches to the old sky box that was coming from the dish

Thanks for the responses guys, I've been doing another bit of research into it and I think I'd be better off getting a Combi box, it'd probably save me a lot of hassle for the extra few quid.
Any recommendations on combi boxes anyone?
