Hi All. I Tried Posting this This Morning but i Did Somthing Wrong,. My Question is What do ye Think of the Audi A3 2.0 Tdi S Line? Iv Come Across a 10 Reg UK Import on Done Deal. It Has 30,000 Miles on it & They are Looking For 17,900k for it! It Still Has UK Reg on it Tho, So Thats Gonna Cost another couple grand!. Also What Do Ye Think of the Golf Gt Tdi? Are they as Good as the A3? Are The A3 Just a "Rich Mans" Golf?...

The vrt would be €4500+

A3 is basically a golf, but posher.

Consider a scirocco too I suppose

Also bear in mind its illegal to sell a non vrt'd car in Ireland unless you're a garage

Not quite Colm. The garage must VRT the car before transferring ownership to the buyer. Obviously they can display the car with UK plates but the price should include the VRT which the garage must pay (and register the car) before the car leaves the premises.
The main exception would be where a garage sells a car to another TAN registered dealer.

p.s. sorry if this is really what you meant....simply clarifying it.

p.p.s. strictly speaking the garage doesn't actually have to pay the VRT until the 15th of the following month (offhand I can't remember the exact date), but they have to register the details of the transaction before releasing the car.

I was going at it the other way, ie if its here and not vrt'd and its not a garage then its illegal.

Be suspicious of the mileage no matter how good it looks. High mileage cars from the uk is where the cash is.

Either Way Its Gonna Have To Be Paid Anyway, Which is Gonna Take it Well over The 20k Mark, But i Suppose its Still Not Mad Money for an A3 S line. But Surley The A3 is more Refined & Nicer To Drive Than The Golf?!... I Mean are you Just Paying Extra for the Four Rings on the Bonnet?..

Of course there's more than the badge. While they're on the same platform, of course they're different. In the same way as an Octavia is different to a Golf.
The interior is nicer, they're not as common, but on a purely non subjective basis its not any better than a Golf. But that's missing the point I suppose.
Never found the A3 nicer to drive, but its nicer to be in.

I Woudnt be Buying New, From about 09 Onwards. Id Like To Keep it under the 20k tho. The Reason i woudnt Buy a Golf is Because We Allready have a Jetta Here, & they are Much The Same Thing.I Drove a Friends A4 Tdi Recently 140 Bhp, 2004 with 140,000 Mls up, & it was Going Like New, Bullet Proof. The Only Thing is i think the New Model A4 is a Bit Big, Not as Sporty as it used to be. The A3 Has The X Factor

What Goes Wrong with the 2.0?... Im Not Too Sure about The Sicrocco, Not enough of them Around , But I Suppose Some People Like That. Im Not Sure if i Like The Shape tho!

An A3 2.0 TDI is in no way troublesome. If you google 2.0TDI problems you will find problems with Siemens injectors and balance shafts. A3 has no balance shaft and uses Bosch injectors. The only exception is the 170bhp PD BMN code engines which do use the troublesome Siemens injectors but these are now the subject of a recall so it's not really an issue at all.
