08 Golf Bluemotion Match

My 2000 E46 BMW finally kicked the bucket. Doing approx 500 miles a week and tax and petrol were killing me. I like the Golf and brother has the Focus so would prefer to not get one.

Any issues with the 1.9 Bluemotion Match Golf of the 08 vintage I should know about?

I'd save approx €2000 a year on petrol and €450 on road tax so whatever I buy is going to go some way to paying for itself. Hoping to get the bluemotion match golf but may settle for the Golf Match if prices are too high.

Want fuel economy over anything but also want a good solid car and I'd like to like the car too!! Any suggestions of similar would be appreciated.

    Isn't the match higher spec?

The match is the higher spec i.e multi-function steering wheel, central armrest and is quite common especially in England. The Bluemotion on its own is just an extra fuel-economy function in the cars engine. The bluemotion version would do maybe 6/7 mpg extra than the standard or match versions in theory. What I'd like is less common, the bluemotion and match both in the car spec.

Ah I have you. Thought blue motion was a spec on them

I'd be loing for owner reviews to see what actual improvement there is in economy. Are there other differences like narrower low resistance tyres etc?

there are actually a few small things but cars pretty much identical. Bluemotion sits lower too I think and flat tray underneath etc. Its the fuel economy that interests me more than the underneath of the car tbh!! For the sake of it I'd like the extras you get with match too. Bit of comfort in bleak times!!

Anything else in that age range doing over 60mpg. Dont want to spend over €12,000. Hoping to buy in England and get it home and VRT'd etc for 10-12k

I think the gearing on the blutmotion engine is longer as well.

Hard to think of any cars that would give equal mpg
