HDD Freezing While Plugged Into FTA Receiver

The other day I purchased a Triax TSC114 Saorview receiver.
This gives me all the FTA channels for Ireland (Terrestial) & all the UK FTA channels (Satellite).
I also purchased an Intenso 320GB external Hard Drive which is converted to FAT32.
My problem is that while recording any channel the picture on the TV freezes about half way through recordings.
This means the recording stops as well & the LED light goes out in the external Hard Drive.
It also freezes before recordings start or even if it's just plugged in.
I'm just wondering as to why this is the case.
I have also tried NTFS but, the same problem.
It seems that the receiver is not providing enough power to the HDD.
Is there an adaptor/converter I can plug into the mains & also be able plug the USB part into the receiver & the other end (Mini USB) into the HDD?
I would need all this in one unit.
If there is I would be grateful if someone could provide me with a link.

You asked on other thread. http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2056858075

You can't reliably run ANY HDD off USB on ANY small setbox. There isn't the power. Use an external drive box with a 5V power socket and a 1A PSU or a self powered box.

THE NTFS only solves the file size issue.

If you want reliable all-in-one then buy a real PVR. PVR function or PVR Ready or External USB recording is Marketing speak for a Setbox or TV with a LIMITED USB stick recording feature of unknown reliability.

Only real PVRs (dual tuners and INTERNAL manufacturer selected and supplied HDD) are reliable. Some HDDs are OK for PC/Laptop use but unsuitable for continuous transfer, especially of HD, unless it's a PVR with a very large RAM buffer.

In any case you need an External HDD that has a power jack socket for external USB use.

This is true even on PCs. Not all PC/Laptops will supply more than the 500mA that some HDD intermittently need. Also many set boxes only have a 5W PSU, they can't spare even 500mA on USB but often only 100mA.
