    Hi guys,

    http://postgradireland.com/course/10236

Anyone else doing this in 2013/2014?
Finishing up my IT degree in uni this year and have chosen this as my next move.
Course looks really interesting and includes a work placement.
Fees are €2,750 under the GSCP.

    Hi,

I would be worried that the College is mainly nursing and education focused. As it is not specialised in either organisational management or technology such as engineering, what lecturer pool of expertise would they be drawing from?

The course can only be as good as the lecturers and their experience, ideally a mix of commercial and research.

Having a postgraduate degree is a big investment in time not just cash so make sure you have access to quality resources, physical and human no matter where you choose.

    Thanks for the input.
The MA is accredited by NUIG, which surely requires a certain standard.
From what I understand visiting lecturers from NUIG in particular and other colleges play a big part in course delivery.
A work placement is also included which ticks a big box as a practical beneift for this course.

Thanks for the links - Looks really interesting.
I like the fact its part-funded by the Government & accredited by NUI Galway.
Yeah, really thinking about applying for it now.
10 week work placement would be cool, I have a degree in Finance but I'm looking to get into Research so 10 weeks placement working in a university would be very useful indeed, and a great insight into professional academia.

Honestly, it looks a bit wishy-washy to me. A masters should be about acquiring very specific skills and/or knowledge, whereas this looks a bit vague.

Ask yourself: is this really going to make you more employable? Are you really going to get a return on the time and money you invest?

That’s not really the point. The question is not whether the qualification is accredited/recognised, the question is whether you’re going to learn anything useful. A prospective employer isn’t going to care all that much about whether your masters is accredited by NUI or not – all they’ll be interested in is demonstrable skills and knowledge.

This doesn't really look like the kind of course that's prepping students for research.

What kind of research are we talking about here?

I agree, a lot of talk about theory in my view. If I were an employer I would have my doubts about it's value.

Just because it is less expensive thanks to gov money does not make it more likely to get you employment! I have made that mistake before. The more funded, the less concerned about quality has been my experience!
