well, if it's the same one they were giving away free about 8 years ago, we still use ours at least once or twice a week since then and it's in great shape. :D

all i've ever done to clean it is rinse it with water (no soap) and give it a gentle scrub, then dry it off and put about half a teaspoon of oil in it and wipe it around inside with a piece of kitchen paper to coat it before putting it away until next time.

even though the non-stick coating it cam with has long since gone entirely, it's current cooking surface is as non-stick as any pan i've ever had. :)

It'd be more in your line to put away the xbox and take out the maths book once in a while

This may be more at home in AH but why is a black guy promoting Chinese New Year?

I'm in the positive camp on this. Have one for years and it is as good as the day I got it.

    They're hardly induction are they?

You are better off with a stainless steel one with no coatings that will wear away. My one is 14 years old and is used a couple of times a week.
Still, its a bargain if you need one!

Got one of those woks free with Uncle Bens products with one of the offers they had going at one stage.........they are ****e(woks)......put my one on the hob after giving it a clean, turned on the heat to heat up the wok before i added the meat/veg,went into the living room to check the score on the match, daughter comes down stairs and says the cooker is on fire!!All this in under a minute!!!What happend was the nonstick coating melted and caught fire!!They are giving 'em away for a reason.......AVOID.

Had one from the last offer but it only lasted a few months. Given it was free you can't complain too much.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,927 ✭✭✭paddyp

Like the others here we had one for donkeys years, maybe the older ones were better. Since been replaced with a circulon flat bottomed one which after 5 years is still in perfect condition. Re: Stainless steel wok stainless steel is a very poor conductor of heat certainly wouldn't get up to temperature on our gas stove. I suppose it you had a huge, paella/wok burner it might work.

Ever wondered where that non-stick coating disappeared to?

    You've eaten most of it.

I was in Super Valu Churchtown today and there was no sign of any woks. Asked one of the guys on the floor and he hadn't heard anything about it. Is the offer only in some shops?

just like any other non-stick pan will over time, even the posh expensive ones, what's your point?

it's outlasted every frying pan i've ever owned, including several tefal ones over the years.

Some woks only work properly with gas flame, anyone know if these work on induction (electric) hobs?

Doubt it will. Had one years ago and it was just a thin metal pressing TBH.

Don't think this will work on induction, needs a good thick base and magnetic properties.

I am not sure if any nonstick coating can stand up to the very high temperatures that woks are ideally used at. However they are great for doing normal mid temp frying in since they do not spatter out the sides.

If there is a decent nonstick wok that can stand up to the temp, then I bet it costs a fortune.

was this induction though? electric induction hobs do not glow.
