I've read the reviews and seen the trailer and it looks like my kind of movie plus it has William Macy and Helen Hunt in it. But surprise surprise my cinema does not appear to be getting it as instead it features the usual mixture of Kids stuff/animation/superhero fantasy crap and middle of the road stuff that wont offend.

Just after watching this, an absolutely beautifully made film. Based on an essay from the poet Mark O'Brien, a polio sufferer, on his real-life experience from using a sex surrogate.

It took me a good thirty minutes to realise the lead was John Hawkes from Deadwood. The guy deserves an Oscar nomination for his role, acting at it's finest.

The trailer above is trying (I think) to market it as a comedy, but it's really not - it's that just Mark O'Brien was a really, really witty and funny guy and subject matter genuinely humorous (or made out to be).

Remarkably made on a budget of $1m. I thought it'd cost $1m alone to get Helen Hunt completely nude.

Is there anywhere in Dublin showing this film?

I looked at the usual suspects and no joy

Is there anywhere in Dublin showing this film?

IFI, Lighthouse, Screen and Cineworld all showing it anyway.

Hopefully get to see it tomorrow. Have been looking forward to it for a while now. John Hawkes is boss.

Really disappointed Oscars snubbed Hawkes, he is superb in this, loved the scenes with him and Macy as his priest

Lousy that this isn't getting a bigger release. Only going by the trailer but a film like this could do really well if the studios/distributors got behind it.

I liked it a lot. It's an adult story told in a mature, sensitive way. It's mostly unsentimental, with plenty of humour to liven it up. Hawkes and Hunt are excellent, both emotionally and physically committed, and their scenes together are admirably frank and affectionate.

It's a modestly presented film, so there's nothing spectacular in terms of direction. The script is pretty straightforward - lots of voiceover! - and more than anything this is an actors film. It also seems to end rather suddenly - everything is wrapped up, but it still takes some significant chronological shortcuts near the end. But its engaging throughout, and plenty moving. A warm-hearted and charming film about life and sex.

Nice little film. Tender and funny, and surprisingly unsentimental. Two very brave performances from Hawkes and Hunt.

I liked the mini Deadwood reunion at the end.

Absolutely loved this film. I thought the acting was superb by John Hawks and Helen Hunt. I admit I found it emotional watching this film, I laughed and I cried, however it wasn't over-sentimental or crass, it was just believable.

Amazing film that deserving of its many awards.
