    Looks like engine management.

Do you have the owners manual to check what it says?

Would be worth getting it plugged into a diagnostics to see the fault code which will determine the problem.

    Hopefully it's not too serious.

normally flashing would mine a mis-fire i think, shouldn't drive it like that at all.

Its the crank shaft sensor. Result had my car on-off for 6 months last year. Immobility sensor €300 then relays the more that sensor again all paying that's what their diagnostic was saying would fix it. Then when i reported the garage to head office they came back and says its the ECU ie the brain fault but the the diagnostic was faulty.

Local mechanic suggested 40€ crank sensor and wala No Problems . I got rid of akin then. Clio was 1.2 extreme model with 8valve engine.

I hat free sensor if ya need. Based in midlands area

That's not possible to say. That light means some component in the cars engine management system has a fault, it happened to be the crank sensor on your car but could be any one of dozens of other components or faults.

@OP, as has been said, a flashing EML normally indicates a misfire which, if you have the 1.2 16v engine, the coils are a very common cause.
