Day outfits for romantic long weekend in Paris

    Hey ladies

I've a trip to Paris booked for next weekend for an interlude. The guy is lovely and always so well dressed, whereas I have flip all nice clothes. He doesn't care obviously (I'm hoping he hasn't noticed all the Penneys labels!). However, I could probably spend about €150 - €200 as I get paid before this trip - and fck the consequences :) - and I wanted to get some nice daywear for a cold trip. We do tend to do a lot of sightseeing when we meet, 'cause I don't know Paris and he doesn't know Dublin.

I already have a really nice jacket that I'll be wearing for the whole trip, and two outfits for going out. I'm more thinking of stylish, but warm, but sexy, but casual for the daytime. :p

I guess a pair of skinny jeans would be good, but I need to get nice shoes and tops I can wear with them. I'd prefer shoes with a 2 - 3" heel or so that are handy enough to walk in. We're going ice skating one of the days, so I'd love to wear a skirt and nice top for that - although I'd probably need to wear leggings or something under the skirt in case I fall on my arse and the skirt ends up over my shoulder!

The other thing I have to consider is that it's snowing over there at the mo., so I probably need practical shoes that are not too slippery! Wedges are great for walking around in, so I should probably be looking at those. I'm not into flats, but I know some pairs look good with, maybe, a skirt - but not so much with skinny jeans. For me anyway. But, I don't have a clue! I'm crap at clothes shopping.

As I said, I have a budget of €200 absolute maximum (and that's stretching it).

    I'm about 5 ft 8 and between an 8 and a 10. Any advice much appreciated! :)

wearing heels in Paris to go sightseeing in a complete no-no in my eyes.

You will be walking the legs of yourself plus, you will be walking on lots of cobbled streets, not to mention the all the steps and that is before you even take into account the snow.

I wont be wearing a shirt going ice skating ever, you need something to protect your legs if you fall, plus you will need to move quite fast and have a good range of movement.

It's probably going to be freezing and you'll be doing lots of walking so I think you need to be more practical in your clothing choices. You can dress up a bit more if you go out to dinner in the evening.

irishbird has given you a good link there.

Was there in the middle of January 6 years ago with my husband - agree to the warm clothes and a dress for the evening. Paris really is the most amazing city in the world if you are with someone that you love - enjoy :)

You will be doing so much walking that heels just won't work. Try a nice pair of flat boots (riding or biker) with skinny jeans, top, cardi and coat. Layers work best as it will be freezing outside and boiling when you go in to some places.

You could go with a nice day dress, wool tights and flat shoes or boots. Add a nice scarf, hat and gloves to finish the look.

Comfort as well as style as nothing as unromantic as blisters from heels!!!

I would say get a pair or two of skinny jeans, a nice jumper, couple of tops, a cardi, dress and really nice wool tights and you will be all set. With Penny's. Aware, Dunnes you should be able to get loads of stuff for 200.

Have a wonderful time in Paris, it really is a romantic city.

That link is brilliant - there are loads of ideas in there. Thanks irishbird!!

And I know what ye mean about flats. I was over there in a few months ago and did pretty much live in flats - even going out - but I was thinking something with just a bit of a wedge for style. :D I'll keep them low though. These boots are gorgeous, and I think Penneys are doing something like them at the mo.

Some really nice shorts on that link, which would make way more sense than a skirt for ice skating and, as you said carolinespring, wool tights all the way!

Thanks for your help. Will be hitting the shops as soon as they open!

Pull and Bear have great stuff at the mo. I got gorgeous shorts there last week and they got more in since :)
