I've heard good things about "Wallander" and have noticed Netflix have both the original Swedish and the UK remake available. Which is the best version to watch?
If the UK version just re-hashes/re-makes the Swedish version it won't matter so much since I haven't seen it.

The BBC version stories are also from the original novels though not in order, its not bad but its not as good as the Swedish series esp series one with Krister Henriksson as Kurt Wallander and the late Johanna Sällström as Linda Wallander. Series two lacked what Krister Henriksson brought to the show as Kurts head strong daughter.

I know that the Swedish version was highly praised, but I just liked Kenneth Brannaghs awfully vulnerable and fragile characterisation of Wallander.

Watch the early episodes in which David Warner plays Wallander's father.

Both versions are good but the earlier Rolf Larsgard ones are far superior. There's a box set of 6 of then that can be got cheap enough on amazon and you really can't go wrong with it.

Couldn't get into the earlier TV film versions with Lassgard I have to say, I guess it was because I'd already seen the Krister Henriksson version and Lassgard really was such a slob!

From what I recall of the novels (haven't trad the earlier ones in years) Wallander was a massive slob before his heart attack and was more likely to have mustard stains on his the than not. Think that the great thing about the earlier ones was they portrayed a man whose life was an absolute mess and could barely look after himself yet he was a great cop who threw himself into every case.

Swedish versions far more atmospheric. I'm sorry, but characters speaking in English while reading Swedish newspapers (as in the Branagh version) just didn't do it for me.
