I'm getting a 3 wood in the next couple of weeks.I'm looking for some advice on which one to get.I've never used one before.I have relied heavily on my 3 iron for the past couple of years.I've got 150 to spend.Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

Assuming shaft is to your liking, something like this

    http://www.donedeal.ie/for-sale/golf/4429101 (no connection )

Picked myself up an R11 driver via same site, and a great club IMHO

Taylormade rbz 15 degree. Or if you save another 50 quid you could buy the newer version which is out next month.

    Rbz part 2

I'm getting the 14.5 degree myself.

Don't rule out the Titleist 910F either. You may as well head out to Kinsealy or somewhere and hit them all for size.

Thanks for yere responses. I'd say Ill probably buy it in a golf shop. I'd be afraid of buying a fake off done deal. Is the Rocketballz an upgraded R11?

In my opinion.... yes, they're both made by taylormade though. The rbz is a newer model. They brought out the r11. Then they brought out the r11s & the rbz or "rocketballz" a yr later. They sold 4 rbz 3 woods for every 1 r11s. It was an extremely successful club. You only have to look at the amount of pros using it. Even pros not sponsored by taylormade. The club goes miles if your swing is of a certain speed.
This yr Taylormade are just bringing out the rbz 2 as they think after the popularity of the previous one.....they'll sell a **** ton of them too.
My advice is to buy the newer version as its supposed to be easier to hit off the fairway than the previous one.

    What he said.

Try before you buy, all shops at big ranges are legit so no issues with fakes etc.

I can understand that, but in fairness, a quick chat and vist (if chat goes well) will tell you if it's ligit or not. For example in my case the chap got a new R11s as a Christman present and I asked to see same when picking up Driver. The one he was selling was practically new, and still had the shop sticker on the shaft.

Anyway, there are plenty of options and choices out there, some great value too. Good suggestion re trying the various options, but I had assumed you would do that anyway :o

I would have said that the rbz would be a replacement for the burner 3woods rather than r11?

I don't have the 3 wood, but do have rbz hybrids & they're definitely a long club that are very easy to hit.

As mentioned kinsealy range is a good shout if you can get there as they have a golf shop attached & you can actually see ball flight, as opposed to hitting in a normal golf shop bay

I'm living in Kerry so i will buy at my local golf club pro shop or else in the shop in the Lisbaun Ind. estate in Galway as I go up to Galway once a month. Rocketbalz is the one most recommended so I'm going to opt for that one. Thanks for the advice.

I am only playing golf properly since last May and the pro in the club told me to gbet the RBZ wood and driver.

Got them about 2 weeks ago and I have been hitting the RBZ 3 wood at least 25 yards further than my old one and alot straighter as well

According to the pro yes, so he told me to get a club that has a 'S flex' I don't know what that is but went with what he told me.

    STOP !

Rocketballz 3 wood is only 17 yards longer than oter 3 woods. The Rocketballz Stage 2 is imminent and gives another 10 yards. Well worth a little patience. Think how many yards extra that will add up to over the lifetime of the club. And will more than pay back the few extra sponds to TM.

I'd also recommend the rbz but no doubt best if you can hit it first.

May as well wait for the stage 12 that will be out in the summer. Is 100 yards longer guaranteed :)

Definitely listen to this! Like I said previously I love my rbz hybrids, but there's no substituting hitting a choice of clubs with peoples opinions on here.

One lad I was playing with recently said he'd bought the rbz but switched back to his previous wood as he couldn't hit the rbz off the deck, so they're not for everyone

    Is only one opinion.

Hitting balls, going to a pro, custom fitting, picking whatever is the newest and most expensive club with the most prominent advertising campaign behind it, in order to pick a club, all have their fans.

But a lot of people do follow the theory that the best way to select one is to ask a forum what they suggest. And to trust that the random answers from unknows, of unknown handicapss, skill, and knowledge of golf equipment, and to go with whatever posts reinforce what the op probably wants in the first place anyway. And its hard to argue with method.

I'm a huge fan of my RBZ 3 wood.

Tried the RBZ 3 wood last week and loving the strike but need to try it a bit more before I make up my mind. On a side note, I was in Nevad Bob's in Ballincollig on Saturday and they are now selling the R11s 3woods for €149 brand new.
