Make sure to ask the dealer for a test drive in the hybrid model. It's the most powerful and fuel efficient model in the range and has a very good spec. It's the only car on sale in Ireland at the moment in the A1 tax bracket apart from plug-in electrics. Might be worth spending a bit more on it, especially if your mileage is high.

I don't want to be a Debbie Downer but please also have a look around a few other brands before you sign on the dotted line.

The Yaris isn't a patch on many other current superminis dynamically and the interior is particularly bad. They feel incredibly cheap and tinny and the 3 cylinder 1.0 they've used in the last two generations is loud and slow.

I say this as someone who once owned a 2003 model, my mother has one, and my MIL has bought a new one every two years since they came out. So I have driven every generation. They used to be a great little car but have been thoroughly outclassed in the last few years. Something like a Fiesta feels like a class above.

The Hybrid is around 19k by the way which is crazy money.

I've been looking at the website for ford and I'm now considering a fiesta Zetec with one or two extras. It seems more substantial. I may be wrong. I had an idea they started at 20000. Will the dealer come down from the price of16700 or is that price set in stone?

The Yaris is a dreadful car by today's standards. Why would you buy one of those, when you could have something like a Fiesta, or a new Clio? Even a Polo would be more interesting. The only model even remotely worth considering with the Yaris is the hybrid, at least that has the distinciton of being the cheapest hybrid you can buy.

OP, have a look at the Kia Rio and Hyundai i20 too, they come with 7 and 5 year warranties respectively and are better equipped than the Yaris:

Calling it dreadful is harsh. A new model was released last year which is a big improvement on the previous version. It's got a big touch screen with reversing camera which syncs with your phone and maps which is pretty cool.

The new fiesta and Clio are good cars too I'm sure. Best bet is to test drive a few different models and see which you like the best. Car sales are down this year so there will be a lot of dealers keen to get a sale. Should be some good deals to be had I'd say.

But then the Irish wouldn't buy it, because it isn't in the lowest tax bracket.

Old model used to be €104 for 1.0 and 1.33 don't know what band that was though
