I've an interview in Bank of Ireland next week for an intern position.

    The job spec is

"The roles would be on the Group’s External Reporting team. External Reporting’s primary role is to deliver some of the Group’s key reporting requirements including the production of the Annual Report, Form 20F, Interim Report and monthly deliverables to the Group’s Court of Directors.

The role involves assisting with the preparation and quality review of these documents and also assisting in the preparation of year end files for audit and SOx control purposes. As all documents are completed at Bank of Ireland Group level and most are externally published, the role provides good exposure to the overall performance of the Group. We are looking for candidates who are motivated and enthusiastic, work well in a team, are well organised and have good attention to detail"

    Given this also:
“interviews to last approximately 30 minutes and will take the form of a discussion of the student’s CV, together with a number of competency based questions.”

Anyone any pointers especially on what the competency based part?

    Thanks:D

Competency based interviews look for the candidate to give examples of situations they have been in before to test their skills. The answers should come from your real life experiences.

Standard questions are ones like "tell me about a time you worked in a team, how did you find it?", "tell me about a time when you had to meet a deadline, what did you do?".

A good answer to the latter would need to outline the specific situation you faced and what you did. e.g. you assessed what needed to be done, made a list and scheduled the tasks, double checked the list against the requirements to ensure nothing had been missed, completed the task, and met the deadline in plenty of time.

The answers do not need to be related to work so in this example you could use college coursework BUT to score well you should rehearse your answers to ensure they include evidence of the skills in the quote above.

There are lots of sample questions online and google is your friend.

Cheers mate, good answer. I suppose using a combination of college and work experience examples would be better?
