    Penalty far too lenient.

    She should have got jail.

besides the shocking description of what Mrs. Duggan/Martin did, it also mentions she sold the car - I didn't think it was possible to legally sell a vehicle in this state that was not registered here - am i wrong here?

The low fine will just encourage more crazy driving and car-related BS in Donegal

Wait she got a 4 week driving course ?

Law-abiding citizens have to pay for driving instruction

    from: http://www.independent.ie/national-news/courts/mum-sped-through-checkpoint-with-customs-officer-on-bonnet-3356712.html

"Ms Duggan (33), from Hawthorn Hill, Newtowncunningham, was warned by a judge that she would lose her driving licence if she appeared before him again."

Wouldnt be terribly impressed by that sentencing if I was the customs officer... is he able to press for additional charges or what? 350e is fairly ridiculous..

Anyone else think if it was a young single man driving the car, the sentance would have been much more severe? Driving at speed at a customs checkpoint is surely a very serious offence.

The court heard that Duggan had been stopped just days before the incident at another customs checkpoint and had given her name as Caroline Martin and a different address.
Clearly trying to avoid fines for driving a NI car in ROI, but to then go on to actually hit a person. Nutbag!

She should have been disqualified for a few years at least. I feel sorry for that customs officer, he must have been pretty shaken up. Crazy thing to happen!

So instead of being banned and sentenced, she got a fine and extra driving tuition.

Justice system is nuts in this country.

Scumbag. Can't understand how the sentence was so lenient. Tax evasion, giving a false name and driving into a customs officer. No jail time. Unreal.

If she hadent brought her kids to school she'd have gotten a month in jail .

She couldent say she was broke either
I she could afford a BMW she could afford the vrt .

€350 quid and a driving course for trying to run someone down?

That's a joke. As above, if it'd been a young fella I guarantee the sentence would have been a LOT more severe! Reverse sexism at its finest!

FFS you get a lot worse for driving unaccompanied as a learner in this country

Guy down the west was convicted of dangerous driving after overtaking multiple cars on dangerous bends, several of the oncoming cars had to pull over to avoid a collision. Multiple witnesses said it was reckless driving of the worst kind they had ever seen.

Penalty? He was sent on an anger management course!

I hate the way its always mentioned "Mum" in articles like this. What does that have to do with anything. She should be punished on offenses she has committed not whether she has kids or not FFS.

Does the word "f*ck" often appear in The Examiner?

Don't think I've ever seen it before...

Ahh but sure the poor mum who had her kid in the back seat couldn't afford to pay VRT on her 5 series BMW

She only ... Gave a false name and address
Had no car tax/NCT (probs no insurance so)
    Done some dangerous driving
    Avoided a checkpoint
    Failed to stop
    Deliberate hit and run
(Not to mention wreckless endangerment of her child)

 I think the fine of €350 and free lessons was totally O.T.T and way too harsh
