Project management hourly rate

Have been asked to Project manage a house extension and renovation for some friends. I have done PM before and normally charge a flat fee and hope it doesn't get too complicated. In this case we have agreed that an hourly rate plus expenses would be better. This makes sense as I will start by liasing with an Architect who will be designing extension from their office in Malaysia.

I may have gone into too much un necessary detail above but I am wondering, in current economic climate, what kind of hourly rate I should charge.

It shouldn't be any different to working out your hourly rate for anything else you do. If it will require additional specific expense on the phone, insurance, travelling etc attribute that to the hourly rate. Other than that its ultimately you that decide.
