I remember speaking to an Aussie farmer a while back and he was explaining to me how they graze their crops a couple of times with lambs before they start to head and then they close them up and they grow to develop seed and they're harvested normally . Very short crops but they had no need for straw anyway.

So does anyone have any info of doing it over here ?
Thinking bout chancing a bit of it and seeing how the lambs do on it .
Should be a right bit of eating in it for them .

Anyone ever hear of it being done over here ?

They graze wheat in Kansas. I don't know much about it after that. If it was feasible, it would be useful before reseeding for a few years.

buddy of mine started growign organic oat for the porrige makers a few years ago. 1st year he had a big issue with weeds but had aggreed to do it for 3 years. Second year his cattle broke into the oats and grazed them down (they were in there for about 3 days as we was working up the country when it happened). anyway the ots came again and he had a fine crop (not much straw but he wasnt planning on keeping it either). does do cattle anymore so what he has done since then is to come in with it topper and top back the oats. Seems happy enough with the job so far.

The only time I have heard of it being done is I read a thread on the BFF about it a long time ago.
