Have You Ever Let A Dream Influence Your Life?

I was recalling earlier the girl I used to sit beside in Junior Cert Irish. A nicer more down to earth attractive girl you could never meet, she really liked me as well, we got on like a house on fire. We used to shift at the junior discos at the local parish hall, we were like all innocent teenagers at the time.

Then one night I had a wet dream. It was about the aforementioned girl, and we were getting fairly hot and heated, I took off my top, she took off hers, our hands were all over each other. I slowly undid her bra (now remember this is just a dream) and my jaw dropped to the floor in horror. She had two large purple vegetables where her breasts should be.

I awoke in a cold sweat, nothing before or since ever affected me like this. To my immense shame, I could never get this image out of my mind, and I'm sad to say, I never had any more to do with this lovely young woman, I moved seats in Irish and everything. It's one of the very few things in life that I genuinely regret doing.

So AHers, have you ever let something you experienced in a dream affect you in real life?

I dreamt about a carrot that died.

There was a big turnip at his funeral.

Turnips are like big massive sprouts.

    Parsnips look like sickly carrots.

Both, when boiled and mashed together with a good squirt of honey stirred in is delicious.

How do you know they were turnips and not sugar beet, for instance?

There's generally turnips on the front of the breasts.

I had a dream about hooking up with this really down to earth, attractive girl in my class. Unfortunately she was into this other guy. Got on like a house on fire with him. One night i dressed up like the girl, sprayed on her perfume and everything. I snuck into the guys room, a touch of chloroform and a pair of fake turnip tits and he went right off her.

That reminds me of a story I know.

It involves a Cavan farmer over visiting his bother in new York.

Anyway, he's walking up fifth avenue when suddenly it starts lashing out of the heavens, its quite possibly the heavIest rain shower the farmer had seen.

Forced to take shelter, he stood at a Bus shelter out of the rain, when suddenly a black dude also seeking shelter gets into the bus shelter too, he has a ghetto blaster up to his ear, playing out some jungle music at full blast.

He looks up at the Cavan Farmer, and asks 'yo bro, do you digg the beat'?

The Cavan man looks at him and says
'what? How the hell would ye dig beat on an evening like that?

Yes but not that kind of dream. In one dream I went back in time to my teenage self. But I told him nothing and let him make all the mistakes I made. That dream I suppose was telling me to let go of the regrets. Get on with your life.

In another I dreamt a remarkable story about an alien spaceship that arrived in the sky. When I woke up I thought that would make a great movie. So I'm writing the screenplay. Just don't hold your breath. I can't write and I've no talent. But hey I have ambitions!

I could make up that she also had cabbages for feet if that would make it more interesting, but then it wouldn't be a true story.

I had a bad case of the DT's a couple of years ago and I dreamed that I was walking home from my best friend's house down his lane when all of a sudden Luis Suarez arrived out of nowhere and totally unprovoked throw a stone at me. Hit me in the head and I started bleeding.

    Hated him ever since.

I feel the same about the Loch Ness Monster. When I was small I dreamt that I was taking out the ashes when he came over from Scotland and trampled my house into the ground while my mother was inside baking queencakes.

    Bastard.

I had a dream that I was going out with Ryan Gosling. *sigh* best dream in ages. Think it was my brain's way of telling me "It will only happen in your dreams...never reality"

Sometimes my brain can be so mean.:(

When I was much younger, I once dreamt I was being chased down an endless alleyway by floating sinister televisions with the disembodied heads of nuns broadcast on them. Just as I was running out of breath and was about to be caught, Snoop Doggy Dogg stepped out from the shadows, shook up a can of 7up and showered the TVs, short-circuiting them and saving me.
Every day since then, I have lived my life in exact accordance with the message this dream taught me.

I'd have thought it was obvious:

    1. You should avoid nuns and television.
    2. Snoop Doggy Dogg is awesome.
    3. Dreams are bullsh1t.

Don't drink 7UP, throw it at nuns instead?

Kind-of, in a minor positive way. The company I was working at was going through some changes, and my job was possibly at risk. Then one night I dreamed that I was in a plane crash ... in which no-one was hurt.

It went something like this: in one of those small commuter-type planes, on a short flight between islands somewhere warm, such as the Caribbean. The engines failed on approach, we ditched in to the sea, and everyone got out and swam to shore as if it was the most normal thing in the world.

I chose to interpret that as "stop worrying about what might happen, it'll all work out OK". Nothing did happen to my job, in the end.

You are the type of what the age is searching for, and what it is afraid it has found. I am so glad that you have never done anything, never carved a statue, or painted a picture, or produced anything outside of yourself! Life has been your art. You have set yourself to music. Your days are your sonnets.

Yes, but never to that degree OP  I think dreams are a visual interface to our sub-concious mind. Most of the time its stuff that only makes sense to Jung and Frued, but occasionally a good one pops up. Its like when you flip a coin to settle a decision and, mid-flip, you realise which option you prefer. I often dream about people I know, and it usually helps me stay clear of social pit-falls.
And what type of mayonaisse to buy.

Another potentially useful rule to live one's life by.

I used to get a lot of recurring dreams, they've disappeared since I sorted out the crap in my life. But there was a lot of murder in them. Usually I murdered my brother. But once I dreamt I killed about four men in a nearby house.

I'm thinking it should be the people around me who are influenced by my dreams rather than me
