Are you planning on having any guests at your wedding or is it just going to be the two of you. if you have guests then some of them could be your witnesses.

Any two adults at all will do. If you have no existing friends who are willing to travel to Cork for the occasion, then ask two neighbours or two work colleagues, and offer them lunch in return. Might be an opportunity to make a couple of friends in Cork.

If you're not willing to ask somebody then you're going to have to kidnap somebody and, honestly, I don't recommend that.

Mightn't be the worst idea to go to the Cork forum and ask there.

Maybe offer them a voucher (HMV?) for doing the deed?

Happened at Letterkenny Registrar office were the couple went out to the car park and just asked 2 random people to be their witnesses.
I also think at my aunts wedding in London, they just asked 2 people walking by on the street, one was a homeless guy.
When you fill out the registration form you have to put down the names of your two witnesses, but those can just be made up names and change them to the real peoples names on the day (a registrar told me that).

I don't know if it is standard procedure but had my own wedding 2012 and was told our witnesses had to have their passports with them. (this was reg office)

I was also in the wedding party of a church wedding 2012 same deal was required by priest so just be aware of this possibility.

I was a witness for a wedding in a reg office and no ID was required

The registry office supply staff members to do "witness" free of charge - the staff love doing it - and they cry free of charge too

    are you serious?

IIRC neither of our witnesses needed to provide ID at any stage of the proceedings - neither before when we registered or during the ceremony or signing of the register. We just put their names, address and DOB.
So maybe just ask on the day - someone attending another wedding might be happy to help out! or the staff in the registry office. I am sure they are well used to doing it.

If you're asking about my post registry office staff doing witness then yes I'm serious. When you are registring your wedding 3 months in advance they ask for the names / addresses of your witnesses - we didn't have anybody. She said to give them the names on the day. We asked do they supply the witness by any chance - and she said if that's what we wanted then she could organise that.....and she did as well:D.

PM me if you need any other details.
