    Hi Folks,
We have here 2 dell inspiron 1545 laptops, bought about 8 months apart, about 3½ - 4 years ago. Laptop A was bought in PC world, has Windows Vista Home Premium and a dual core processor. Laptop B was bought direct from Dell and had Windows Home Basic and I don't think it had a dual core processor.

Some time ago an accident be-fell B which resulted in the screen being damaged amongst some other cosmetic damage and so was consigned to the spare parts press.

So then, I had to bring A into PC world last week as it was as acting up and they've informed me that the hard drive is shot and they have to send it to the UK if I want them to replace it (total cost in the region of €130).

So my question is basically; would the hard-drive from B work in A?

    should do
there are 2 types of disk ide (the older type) and sata
you should have sata from the age of your laptops in them

Open them up if the connectors on the top are the same you can swap them then get your recovery disks and reload your system

Once you have that done you should get the latest drivers from dells site and then install the servive pack for your os if its vista you will need sp1 then sp2 and run windows update

    that should be it
