Ever watch the DigitalRev cheap camera challenge?

    e.g.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JnUavVTTjb8

Well, I'm a total and utter flash ignoramus and was wondering how are they sync'ing the cheap camera with the external flash?

I've a feeling this might be a dumb question, but I'm just total and utterly flash photography ignorant, so any info would be much appreciated.

haven't watched it, but they could just have an optical trigger on the slave flash, which goes off when the on-camera flash goes off ? You could stick some IR filter over the flash of the compact as well so the compact's flash wouldn't contribute to the exposure. I could do it with my SB-26 here, it has a slave mode which allows it to be triggered with a built in optical sensor

Like a light sensitive trigger sorta thing?

If so, that's what I was kinda thinking.. but just wasn't aware that they exist.

    Thanks!
