Audi Mechanic Dublin??

    Hi All

Been having a problem with my 01 1.9 tdi audi a4 lately. Occasionally while driving the car looses power. You only notice it when you go to accelerate or when you change up the gears. The power drops a bit then it takes a maybe 20 - 30 seconds of your foot down before the turbo kicks in a the power shoots back up. The car drives fine until the next time you change up a gear and same thing happens.
It fells like the turbo is kicking in late or the car isnt getting enough air.

This has happened maybe 3 times when ive been driving but normally stops again if the car is sitting up for a few days. Sensor Maybe?

Anyway it was happening again yesterday but this time the power went completely. The car sounded fine, no major amount of smoke or anything but it almost cut out everytime I touched the accelerator. I had just enough power to get it in off the road and unfortunately had to get a tow truck home. I was convinced I had blown the turbo but went out today and drove it for a few mins and it seems fine. Totaly baffled

I believe there could be a few reasons for this including turbo, egr valve, mafs etc.

Any one come across this before?

Does anyone know a really good, reasonably priced mechanic with alot of audi experience around the blanchardstown area?

    Thanks

Id say your air flow sensor is shagged, sounds exactly like the symptoms I had when mine was gone. (i believe on that engine the sensor can be cleaned, i'm sure someone here knows) it could also be a crank shaft sensor.

You dont need an audi mechanic, you just need a mechanic. Everybody knows those engines by now. The syptoms you describe could happen in any car, so I'd say any half decent indy mechanic will diagnose it for you fairly quickly.

    Edit: where are you based?

    Thanks for advice

I have my suspicions about the MAFS alright. If that sensor fails should it throw up an engine warning light? I had it out for a look today and looks fairly clean but didnt actually take it out of the air filter housing. I actually noticed that the air intake sits on top of the wiring loom going to the MAFS and has it totaly flattened...this could cause a break in the wire maybe?

With regards a mechanic, I agree that most mechanics probably know these engines. I suppose I always preferred some one who has worked with a particular car for years.. they tend to have seen every possible problem with the car and recognize the issue very quickly rather than having to try a couple of things first

    Anyone ever cleaned a MAFS?

    Cheers
